The Restaurant Is
Open Tuesday To Saturday From 7pm
"The Limes Bistro", Restaurant - An Introduction.
"A family run business that offers a
dining experience second to none."
Former air
stewardess Pat Wickens set up The Limes Bistro 30 years ago after she transformed a
300-year-old cottage in Charlwood into a wonderful little restaurant. It's a family run
business that offers a dining experience second to none.
"We try to cook food individually for each customer rather than mass
production. We make all the sauces ourselves and buy everything fresh and prepare it all
in the kitchen," said Pat.
The
Bistro's simple bar area which feels very homely is very comfortable
where you can wait until it is time to eat and the food is ready when you reach your table.
With a wide-ranging menu, which included Ostrich Medallions with a Red
Wine Sauce on the day I visited The Limes Bistro, I had a difficult choice in what to eat.
I started with the Chinese Hors D'oeuvres which featured incredibly crispy
shells with sumptuous centres. It's always right when a starter gets your appetite to its
peak ready for the main course.
For the main course, I chose the Scotch Smoked Salmon and Fresh Salmon in
a Cream and Wine Sauce with pasta and vegetables together with a glass of dry house white
wine.
As a big fan of television cookery
programmes, it was nice to taste
something of a masterpiece created by someone who really knows what people want and being
able to smell the delicious food.
The fresh salmon combined beautifully with the smoked salmon and along
with the pasta and sauce, made for an excellent combination and still there were also four
vegetables and new potatoes.
For dessert, the Raspberry Meringue Delight came highly recommended by the
waitress, which is always a good sign. The perfect meringue sat atop a beautiful sauce
with raspberries, ice cream and fresh cream inside.
This
restaurant is ideal for anyone - the romantic couple, a
business dinner or family dinner. The Limes will make you forget all those bad
restaurant
experiences you've had and put your faith back into quality cooking, exquisite food and
excellent wine.
If you go at weekends, book ahead. You'll notice the world of difference
at The Limes. They are Les Routiers recommended and "highly recommended" in The
Good Restaurant Guide.
